Plagiarism Screening

Plagiarism Screening and Publication Ethics – ISMATECH

ISMATECH (Indonesian Journal of Maritime Technology) upholds high ethical standards in scholarly publishing to ensure the integrity of scientific knowledge, maintain public trust in research, and support the advancement of maritime science and technology.

Duties of Editors

Publication Decisions

All submitted manuscripts undergo a double-blind peer review process by at least two qualified reviewers. The final decision to accept or reject a manuscript lies with the Editor-in-Chief, based on the validity, scientific contribution, and relevance to the journal’s scope.

Fair Evaluation

Editors evaluate manuscripts solely on the basis of their academic merit, including originality, significance, methodological quality, and relevance, without regard to the authors’ gender, race, religion, nationality, or political beliefs.

Confidentiality

Editors and editorial staff must treat submitted manuscripts as confidential documents. They must not disclose any information about a manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, and the publisher, as appropriate.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

Editors must not use unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript for their own research without the express written consent of the author. Editors must avoid handling manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest and must ensure all contributors disclose relevant competing interests.

Investigation and Ethical Complaints

Editors are responsible for responding appropriately to ethical complaints regarding submitted or published papers. This includes contacting the authors and possibly their institutions, and issuing retractions, corrections, or expressions of concern when necessary, in accordance with COPE guidelines.

Duties of Reviewers

Contribution to Editorial Decisions

Peer reviewers assist editors in making editorial decisions and, through constructive feedback, help authors improve the quality of their manuscripts. Peer review is a critical component of scientific publishing.

Timeliness and Confidentiality

Reviewers who are unable to provide a timely review should inform the editor promptly. Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents and should not be shared or discussed with others without editorial permission.

Objectivity and Acknowledgment of Sources

Reviews should be conducted objectively, with comments clearly supported by arguments. Reviewers should identify relevant published work not cited by the authors and report any suspected overlap or plagiarism to the editor.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

Reviewers must not use unpublished materials from a submitted manuscript for their own benefit and should refrain from reviewing manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest.

Duties of Authors

Reporting Standards

Authors must present an accurate account of the research performed, along with an objective discussion of its significance. Data should be represented truthfully and in sufficient detail to allow replication.

Plagiarism and Originality

ISMATECH only accepts original manuscripts that have not been published elsewhere. All submissions are screened for plagiarism using iThenticate. Suspected cases of plagiarism will be investigated and addressed in accordance with COPE guidelines.

Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Submissions

Authors must not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal at the same time. Redundant or duplicate submissions will result in suspension or rejection of the manuscript.

Authorship and Acknowledgment

Authorship should be limited to those who have made significant contributions to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the study. All co-authors must approve the final version of the manuscript. Acknowledgments may be given to individuals who provided assistance but do not meet authorship criteria.

Conflicts of Interest

All authors must disclose any financial or personal relationships that could influence their research. Conflicts of interest must be transparently declared during submission.

Fundamental Errors in Published Works

When authors discover significant errors in their published work, they must promptly notify the editor and cooperate in issuing a correction or retraction. If the error is identified by a third party, authors must respond appropriately to maintain the integrity of the literature.

Citation Manipulation

Deliberately increasing citations through self-citation or mutual citation to boost metrics is considered unethical and is strictly prohibited by ISMATECH’s publication policy.

Through adherence to these principles, ISMATECH is committed to maintaining a trusted platform for the dissemination of high-quality research in maritime technology and engineering.
