Abstract

The Community Service Program (PMMD) in Nelayan Berdasi Village, West Balikpapan District, aims

to enhance the competitiveness of local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through

re-branding innovation and the development of eco-friendly packaging. The village has abundant

marine resources such as boneless milkfish and crab chili sauce but faces challenges in branding and

the use of sustainable packaging materials. This interdisciplinary program involved collaboration

among students and lecturers from Architecture, Visual Communication Design, Information Systems,

and Physics departments at the Institut Teknologi Kalimantan. Through the Focus Group Discussion

(FGD) method, the community actively participated in designing product packaging and learning about

the utilization of crab shells as an alternative biodegradable material. The program resulted in five

packaging designs, two UMKM logo concepts, and a prototype of chitosan-based packaging material.

The outcomes indicate improved community awareness regarding branding and environmental

sustainability, as well as stronger collaboration between academia and local communities to develop a

creative and sustainable coastal tourism villag
