REVITALIZATION AND OPTIMIZATION OF GREENHOUSES THROUGH AN AUTOMATIC IRRIGATION SYSTEM IN THE MERANTI TOURISM
Abstract
The Meranti Tourism in Karang Joang Village, North Balikpapan has a 36 m² greenhouse facility built as a means of sustainable agricultural education. However, since its initial operation, the greenhouse could not function optimally due to the absence of an adequate irrigation system, resulting in plant death and the wastage of educational potential. This community service activity was implemented from March to June 2025 with the aim of revitalizing the greenhouse through the implementation of an automatic drip irrigation system. Implementation methods include infrastructure condition survey, area cleaning, physical structure improvement, automatic irrigation system installation with water pump, pipe and drip hose installation, cultivation of diverse plants, and community education. The drip irrigation system was chosen because it can save water usage by up to 30% more efficiently and distribute water evenly to all plants. The results of implementation show that the greenhouse functions optimally with 35 plants consisting of herbal, ornamental, and vegetable plants. Evaluation of community satisfaction through questionnaires from 10 respondents showed that 70% expressed high satisfaction with the program. Community understanding of drip irrigation systems increased significantly from 10% to 100% after socialization. This program successfully realized the greenhouse as a means of sustainable agricultural education while increasing understanding of modern irrigation technology among the surrounding community.
