Abstract

Mawar Kindergarten, located in Margo Mulyo Subdistrict, Balikpapan City, plays an essential role as an early childhood education institution in shaping children’s basic knowledge, character, and social skills. As an educational institution, the availability of adequate facilities and infrastructure is a key factor in supporting a safe and enjoyable learning process. Based on this need, a community service program conducted by lecturers and students of Institut Teknologi Kalimantan focused on revitalizing educational facilities at Mawar Kindergarten. The program included classroom ceiling repairs, renovation of the roof and flooring in the playground area, and the strengthening of educational values through school greening activities. In addition, lecturers and students introduced appropriate technology based on recycled materials as creative and environmentally friendly learning media. All activities were carried out in a participatory manner involving teachers, parents, and the local community. The results showed an improvement in the quality of the learning environment, making it safer, more comfortable, and more supportive of children’s development. Furthermore, students gained early awareness of the importance of environmental cleanliness and sustainability. This program is expected to serve as a model of community empowerment in supporting sustainable basic education facilities.
