PEMBERDAYAAN MASYARAKAT MENTARI VILLAGE MELALUI PENGELOLAAN SAMPAH RUMAH TANGGA MENUJU LINGKUNGAN BERSIH DAN BERKELANJUTAN
Abstract
This community service activity is located in the Mentari Village Housing Complex in Karang Joang KM.21, North Balikpapan, which is inhabited by around 467 families. Some residents still dump and burn waste in vacant lots, which has the potential to cause pollution and health problems. To address this problem, the community service team implemented a household waste management program through color-sorting and the use of digesters to process organic waste into fertilizer. Activities carried out included problem identification, outreach, training on sorting organic, inorganic, and residual waste, digester construction, and waste collection sites (TPS). Evaluation results showed an increase in community knowledge and awareness, where 63.6% understood the types of waste and 72.7% knew the function of digesters. Residents are now able to sort and dispose of waste according to the established categories. This program has succeeded in increasing environmental awareness with a success rate of ±70%, as well as creating a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable housing environment.
