Flood Mitigation through Waste Management, Warning Signs, and Barrier Fences in North Balikpapan

Abstract

The Community Service Program (KKN) is a student activity in applying the knowledge they have gained to the community. This KKN raises the issue of waste problems which are problems that have not been resolved by residents of RT.15. Based on observations and interviews with RT.15 partners, this problem is caused by a lack of public awareness of the importance of protecting the environment and the lack of supporting facilities for residents to dispose of their household waste. In addition, another problem caused by this waste problem is flooding, where the residential area and there are Elementary Schools around the river flow area which have other potential dangers, namely the risk of being carried away by the river current. Thus, from these problems, students create a work program, namely the creation of supporting facilities for waste disposal, namely trash bins and the creation of barriers in the river flow area and safety signs. It is hoped that with this activity, students and the community will realize the importance of protecting the environment by not littering and understanding the risk of flooding in areas near rivers.
