Eco-Enzyme-Based Environmentally Friendly Soap Innovation in the Meranti Tourism Area
Abstract
Environmental problems in the Meranti Tourism Area, such as the massive growth of aquatic weeds and the suboptimal management of household organic waste, have led to environmental pollution and a decline in sanitation quality. To address these issues, a community service program was implemented through the innovation of hand soap based on eco-enzyme produced from the fermentation of organic waste and aquatic weeds. The activity was attended by 30 residents living in Km 15, Karang Joang Village, North Balikpapan District. The program included socialization, training on eco-enzyme production, liquid soap formulation, and participatory evaluation using pretest, posttest, and satisfaction questionnaires. The results indicated a significant improvement in the community’s understanding of the eco-enzyme concept and its application, as well as high acceptance of the environmentally friendly soap product, which was considered to have local economic potential. The participatory approach encouraged active community involvement and opened opportunities for environment-based entrepreneurship. This innovation not only contributed to improving sanitation in the tourism area but also represented a concrete step in applying the principles of a circular economy based on local potential.
