PENGELOLAAN SAMPAH ORGANIK DAN ANORGANIK DI RT 36 KELURAHAN KARANG JOANG BALIKPAPAN
Abstract
RT 36, Karang Joang Village, is a densely populated area in North Balikpapan. Suboptimal waste management is a major problem for residents. The ITK community service team conducted several activities to address waste management issues. First, organic waste management through composting, second, inorganic waste management through ecobrick making, and third, the construction of an automatic waste sorting station. These activities aimed to empower the community in managing organic and inorganic waste into something of high value while raising awareness of the importance of waste management. The series of activities included socialization and training on composting, distribution of educational pamphlets, hands-on practice with residents, ecobrick training, and the construction of a simple automatic waste sorting device. The results of this program showed increased knowledge and community participation in organic waste management and the creation of ready-to-use compost that supports community agricultural productivity. This activity also opened up opportunities for the sustainability of an integrated waste management system at the neighborhood level based on community participation.
