DISASTER MITIGATION ROUTE MAPPING PROGRAM IN RT 1, BARU TENGAH VILLAGE, WEST BALIKPAPAN, BALIKPAPAN CITY
Abstract
The Village Community Empowerment Program (PPMD) entitled “Disaster Mitigation Route Mapping Program in RT 1, Baru Tengah Village, West Balikpapan” is a tangible contribution to improving community capacity and preparedness for disasters. This activity aims to encourage active community participation in community-based disaster mitigation efforts. The program includes the creation of evacuation route maps, the determination of assembly points, the installation of warning stickers on residents' homes, and warning signs in strategic locations. Evacuation maps are compiled based on field observations, taking into account safe and easily accessible routes. Stickers containing preventive messages such as “Turn Off Electricity,” “Turn Off Stoves,” and “Turn Off Water” are installed to increase awareness during disasters. In addition, signs prohibiting littering and dumping waste into the sea are installed as an effort to protect the environment and prevent exacerbating disaster risks. Through this program, the community is expected to be more responsive, independent, and empowered in facing potential disasters in their environment.
