TEKNOLOGI MONITORING WARGA DALAM MENINGKATKAN KEAMANAN LINGKUNGAN DI RT 14 KARANG JOANG KOTA BALIKPAPAN

Abstract

The Community Service Program (PKM) was conducted in RT 14, Karang Joang Sub-district, North Balikpapan District, focusing on enhancing neighborhood security through community participation and technology-based solutions. Initial survey results revealed low security levels and minimal resident involvement in neighborhood watch (siskamling) activities. In response, the PKM team implemented three main programs: installation of CCTV cameras in vulnerable spots, development of a neighborhood watch monitoring system using Google Tools, and distribution of safety education through a dedicated WhatsApp Channel. The programs were carried out in stages with active involvement from residents and the local neighborhood head. Evaluation results showed improved community perception regarding safety and program effectiveness, with average post-program survey scores above 3.4 on a 4-point scale. The CCTV installation program received the highest score (3.6), indicating the most tangible impact. Although challenges such as limited access to technology and underutilization of the monitoring system remained, the program successfully raised collective awareness and laid the foundation for a sustainable, community-driven security system.
