Abstract
This program aims to improve community well-being through two main initiatives: the installation of Solar-Powered Public Street Lighting (PJUTS) and the establishment of a child-friendly mini library. The PJUTS units were installed in Pesona Bukit Batuah Housing Complex, RT 71, Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, as a solution to limited street lighting, which had previously relied on conventional electricity. Meanwhile, the mini library was built to foster children's reading interest while providing an inclusive educational space. The program adopted a participatory approach by actively involving the community from the planning stage to implementation. The results show positive impacts: PJUTS successfully improved nighttime lighting and enhanced residents' sense of safety, while the mini library received enthusiastic responses and has been utilized as an informal learning facility. 87 percent of the 33 community members were satisfied and felt the program was beneficial, while 53 percent of the 23 participating children reported an improvement in their reading habits. The integration of renewable energy technology and community-based literacy initiatives demonstrates that a collaborative, needs-based approach can serve as an effective solution for sustainable development. Beyond providing functional benefits, the program also raises community awareness about the importance of clean energy and a reading culture, thereby contributing to an overall improvement in quality of life.
