Abstract

Farmers in the Swatani Karang Joang Group, Balikpapan City, still face limited access to subsidized fertilizers, which drives dependence on expensive commercial chemical fertilizers that pose risks to soil and health. This condition highlights the need for more affordable, environmentally friendly, and sustainable alternatives. One potential solution is the utilization of agricultural and livestock waste for independent production of liquid organic fertilizer. As a result, farmers rely on costly chemical fertilizers with long-term effects that may degrade soil quality. On the other hand, agricultural and livestock waste such as coconut husks, sugarcane, jengkol soaking water, and cattle manure are available but not yet optimally utilized. This community service activity was carried out through training and practice in producing LOF based on waste generated by farmers. The aim of this activity is to increase farmers’ self-reliance in fertilizer supply, reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers, and encourage sustainable and environmentally friendly farming practices. One of the outcomes of the community service activities was obtained through pre-test and post-test assessments by the farmers, which showed improved understanding and the need for further training in production.
